Lots of Saguaro

Today was another day for a hike.  We took a break from all the other walking in the morning, but set off around 10:15 for our hike.  There's a whole system of trails (as I mentioned in a previous blog) across the main road from our RV park.  We drove to a trailhead, of sorts, 2-3 miles away, and started from there.

The tall Saguaro Cactus is amazing.  Some of it must be 25-30 feet high.  And the photo on the right is of a Saguaro with a hole right through it.  Birds and/or insects, I suppose.

This is looking up the hill and the Saguaro spike the land everywhere.

This is a shot of the trail we're hiking on - part of it anyway.

This is another cactus we haven't seen yet.  It looks rather pretty out here among all the other cacti.

There are many of these - they're called "washes", or dry creek beds.  When it rains,  the water doesn't soak into the ground very well, which is why there are flash floods in desert areas, and it runs down in these.

This is the flat area we walked through.  We're looking down on it.  Our truck is parked over at the far left.  You probably can't see it in the photo.  If it were to rain, this area would be covered in water.

Someone we saw on the trek, standing under the palo verde.

And this dude I encountered.  Love the shot with the hill in the background and the tall Saguaro.

Our friends, Sue & Bryan Hunter, arrived in Tucson today with friends of theirs.  We expect to be seeing them tomorrow.
